  • 1. Mention the functions of Gram Panchayat.
    The functions of a Gram Panchayat include providing house numbers, arranging household and drinking water, and making roads and paths in the village. It is also responsible for village cleanliness, waste water disposal, and maintaining public property, health, and education facilities. Other duties include planning for village development, managing crops and pastures, maintaining land asset offices, and keeping a register of births and deaths.
  • 2. What is meant by local self-government? Explain.
    Local self-government is the administration run by representatives who are elected by the local people. These institutions are crucial for the development and management of local areas. In villages, this system is a three-tier structure consisting of the Gram Panchayat, Taluka Panchayat, and District Panchayat. In cities, local self-government is managed by the Municipality and Corporation.

    The Talati cum minister is a government-appointed official for the Gram Panchayat. They are responsible for administrative tasks, collecting taxes, and preparing reports and budgetary accounts for the Gram Panchayat.   • 1. Functions of Corporation
    A Corporation is responsible for the development and well-being of its citizens in a densely populated city. Its functions include maintaining public hygiene and sanitation, providing pure drinking water, and managing the drainage system and garbage disposal. The Corporation also handles the construction and maintenance of roads, street lighting, and primary education facilities. Furthermore, it builds libraries, playgrounds, and gardens, and is responsible for registering births, deaths, and marriages, as well as controlling food adulteration.
  • 2. Social Justice Committee
    The Social Justice Committee is responsible for creating and implementing schemes to provide educational, health, social, and economic facilities to the weaker sections of society. This committee consists of five members at the Taluka and District Panchayat levels. The formation of this committee is mandatory at all three levels of the Panchayati Raj system, and its main function is to ensure justice for the weaker sections.
  • 3. Role of district collector in Panchayati Raj
    The District Collector is the administrative head of the district and also serves as the District Magistrate and District Election Officer. The Collector's role in Panchayati Raj is very important. He or she coordinates and manages the work of all departments at the district level and acts as the secretary of the District Planning Committee. The Collector is also responsible for determining the number of Gram Panchayat members and reserving seats for women and different castes and classes, including the Sarpanch position.
