1. Characteristics of the Rajputs
The Rajputs were known for their bravery and for keeping their promises, even at the cost of their lives. They preferred to die rather than show their back to an enemy and were protectors of Gau Brahmins. They would protect those who surrendered at any cost and fought battles righteously without practicing unrighteousness. Rajput women were also known for their valour, happily sending their sons and husbands to war. If needed, they would also go into battle with a sword in hand. -
2. Trade and commerce during the Rajput era
During the Rajput era, there was a separate government department to handle commerce-related matters. This department was responsible for collecting taxes on foreign trade, deciding the value of goods, and purchasing essential commodities for the state. The main source of tax collection was land revenue, which was a sixth of the total production and was known as 'Bhag'. Revenue was also collected from ports, check-posts, and irrigation. Ports in Gujarat such as Stambhtirth (Khambhat) and Bhrigukutch (Bharuch) were famous centers for foreign trade.
